Over the course of our hold period, GI helped management build SoftLayer into a global leader in cloud computing and hosting services.

  • Talent Development: Hired key senior-level executives throughout the life of the investment
  • Organic Growth: Expanded the data center capacity and geographic footprint, and launched new products, such as cloud storage, virtual rack, and fully-managed hosting
  • M&A: GI acquired EV1 and The Planet in 2006 and subsequently merged these businesses with SoftLayer in 2010. The combined company benefited from significant innovation, scale and cost efficiencies


GI sold SoftLayer to IBM (NYSE:IBM) in July 2013.
